Barbara Smith Downs, loving and kind at heart, passed away on January 2, 2025, at Catawba Valley Medical Center at the age of 75.

Born on October 23, 1949, in Burke County, North Carolina, she grew up immersed in the warmth of a close-knit community.

A dedicated seamstress, Barbara retired from Drexel Heritage after many years of service, weaving not just fabrics but also deep relationships with all whom she encountered. Her devotion extended beyond work as she actively participated in the St. Paul Baptist Church, touching lives through her faith and compassion.

Barbara's journey was shared with her beloved husband, Billy Joe Downs, for 52 remarkable years. Her mother, Pearl Blankenship Smith of Glenn Alpine, numerous nieces, and nephews will also cherish her memory. Barbara was greeted in passing by her father, Roy Leonard Smith, with whom she is now reunited.

Her gentle spirit and enduring kindness are legacies that will live on through the many lives she touched.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home, Fallston

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul Baptist Church, Casar with the Rev. Keith Fulbright officiating.

Burial will follow at in church cemetery.
