Harvest Healthy Habits Brings Free Family Fun and Health Resources to the Community

Families are invited to attend Harvest Healthy Habits, a free community event on Saturday, September 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Cleveland County Health Department.
This family-friendly event is designed to promote healthy living while connecting residents with valuable health resources available throughout the community. Attendees can enjoy free food, face painting, balloon art, inflatables, giveaways, and activities for all ages.


Community Invited to Observe International Overdose Awareness Day in Shelby

SHELBY, NC - Community members are invited to join local organizations in recognizing International Overdose Awareness Day on Monday, August 31, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Totally Free Clothes and Thrifty Thrift Store, located at 318 Gidney Street, Shelby, NC.
This free community event is open to everyone and is dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives to overdose, supporting individuals and families affected by substance use, and raising awareness about overdose prevention and recovery resources.
The event will feature guest speakers, community resource information, free food, door prizes, naloxone training, a remembrance wall, and a moment of silence to honor the lives lost to overdose. Attendees will also have the opportunity to connect with local organizations offering prevention, treatment, recovery, and support services.

Star is so sweet & loves being outside, 5/6 year old, 60 pound Lab mix. Star is good with cats, other dogs and house trained. She sleeps on her fur blanket at the bottom of the bed, & enjoys her evening piece of cheese with her incontinence medicine. Cleveland Community College Joins Landmark NSF Initiative to Build America's Next Energy Workforce

Cleveland Community College (CCC) has been selected as a workforce development partner in the NSF Grid Modernization Engine in the Carolinas, known as the Carolinas Grid Engine, a regional initiative that could bring more than 10,000 jobs to the Carolinas while modernizing the nation's electric grid, strengthening domestic energy supply chains, and preparing workers for high-demand energy careers.


CCC Receives $1.7 Million to Expand Healthcare Workforce Training

Cleveland Community College is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $1.7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) to support the expansion and renovation of the Bailey Allied Health and Science Center, increasing the college's capacity to train the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Meet ROCKET: 4 years old, mixed breed, 50 lbs.

Rocket was adopted as a puppy, but his family recently returned him because he became reactive toward their other dog. Since returning, his foster has been working with him. While he is still dog-reactive, he responds exceptionally well to his handler. If he reacts to another dog, he redirects and calms almost immediately with a command.

Cleveland Mills former employees to be honored

The Lawndale Historical Society will honor the former employees of Cleveland Mills at its seasonal opening on June 14 at 2:00 p.m. This event will be in the new meeting room at the museum located at 119 Piedmont Drive. Everyone is invited to attend as several of the employees share their memories of the mill and their co-workers. There will also be a pictorial display and a short video of the history of the mill.


Brett Washburn FCA Fan Of The Year For 2026

Brett Washburn recently was awarded Fan of the Year 2026 at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Hall of Fame annual program held at Shelby City Park. Brett is a huge Gardner -Webb University fan. He also loves NASCAR, Crest High athletics, and the WWE. Brett participates in Special Olympics and attends Boiling Springs Baptist Church.

Open Burning Ban Lifted For 81 Counties

RALEIGH - The N.C. Forest Service has lifted a ban on all open burning for 81 counties effective 8 a.m. Sunday, May 3. The statewide ban on open burning went into effect March 28 due to hazardous forest fire conditions, and the ban remains in effect for Alamance, Anson, Cabarrus, Chatham, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Stanly, Stokes and Union counties until further notice.


Pinnacle Classical Academy dedicates new building

Federal, state, and local officials joined Sen. Debbie Clary, co-founder and board chair of Pinnacle Classical Academy, at the official dedication of Pinnacle Classical Academy's grade 4-12 school building at its Joes Lake Road campus on April 10.


Healthy Together Cleveland Coalition Partners With City of Shelby to Expand Health and Wellness Initiatives

At its February 16 meeting, Shelby City Council members voted unanimously to approve an agreement with Healthy Together Cleveland (HTC) to establish a collaborative partnership to provide support for community health and wellness initiatives.
"We are hopeful this partnership will benefit our residents by providing educational opportunities that encourage long-term, healthy living," said Mayor Stan Anthony.
