William Van Mayes

William Van Mayes, 74, 212 Elizabeth Church Road, Shelby, NC, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013, at Hospice at Wendover.

He was born on July 23, 1939, in Cleveland County, NC, to the late James Manson Mayes and Mary Bush Mayes.     Mr. Mayes worked for Bost Bakery as a truck driver and was a member of Trinity Pentecostal Holiness Church in Shelby.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Ted Quinton Mayes; half brother, Junior Mayes and half sister, Virginia Beaver.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Brenda Kay Walker Mayes; two sons, William Darrell Mayes and Jason Mayes both of Shelby; daughter, Paula Taylor and husband, Chuck of Fayetteville; three brothers, Joe Mayes of Shelby, Johnny Mayes of Cowpens, SC and Fred Mayes of Easley, SC; two sisters, Betty Hawley of Granite Falls and Barbara Mulllinax of Blacksburg, SC; eight grandchildren, Ashley Puckett, Andrea Clary, Amanda Mayes, Nichole Mayes, Jake Mayes, Avery Mayes, Ashley Taylor and Paisley Rose Bell and two great-grandchildren, Aiden Puckett and Gage Johnson.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.

Funeral:  3:00 PM on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel, Fallston

Officiating: Rev. Jerry Grigg 

Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park
