This year’s liver mush festival took on a new theme. “Mush, Music & Mutts” was introduced and included  live music, the popular pet parade, art, pumpkin painting, a children’s costume parade, plenty of food and array of craft vendors. “Mush, Music & Mutts” is the official State of North Carolina Fall Liver Mush Festival, and was held on October 19th around the Historic Court House Square in Uptown Shelby.  A little bit of rain could not dampen the day and by 9:30 a.m. the crowds began to grow. Liver mush has been a favorite in rural North Carolina since the Civil War and the long lines in front of the sandwich stands attest to it’s local popularity.
