Renovations continue on historic Courthouse

In addition to the cupola repairs, roof renovations are also ongoing.

If you have been in Uptown Shelby recently, you may have noticed repair work being done on the historic Courthouse, now the home of the Earl Scruggs Center. As it turns out, that very visible work is just the tip of the iceberg.


KM Hometown Hero Jimmy Wayne honored with mural

The City of Kings Mountain, in partnership with the Tourism Development Authority and the Kings Mountain Little Theatre Board of Directors, have commissioned artist Scott Nurkin, founder of the North Carolina Musician Murals Project, to create a mural honoring hometown hero -- author, singer, songwriter, musician -- Jimmy Wayne as part of an art installment celebrating art and artists from North Carolina.


Don Gibson concerts to go 'on the road'

The Don Gibson Theatre (DGT) is once again taking its shows on the road. Three upcoming concerts are going to be held at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds (1751 E. Marion St., Shelby) instead of at the iconic 400-seat venue.

Mischia and Greg Taylor not only got engaged in a horse-drawn carriage, but they also rode in a carriage on their wedding day.

Love will be in the air on Feb. 13, 2021, in Uptown Shelby. For the first time ever, the city is hosting carriage rides for Valentine's Day, or rather Valentine's Eve.

Pinnacle Classical Academy's Dean of Academics, Jeff Ziegler, said recently the school's grade 7 through 12 robotics team, the Pi Rho Eagles, competed in two multi-school remote scrimmage competitions during the first semester and won both competitions.

In a recent media release, Auxiliary Unit 82 PR Chairperson Linda Quinlan noted that on Saturday, Dec. 19, Shelby American Legion Post 82, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 82, and SAL Squadron 82 members gathered at two local cemeteries to place nearly 200 wreaths on the graves of veterans.

A coat drive called "Keep Cleveland County Warm" is being held in memory of a Rutherford County woman, Pat Parker. Organizers are asking the community for donations to help keep people warm this winter.

"Nature Reconsidered" art competition and "Trail" photography competition opened this week at Southern Arts Society in Kings Mountain. Both are judged shows with cash prizes.
