Wake the World returns to Moss Lake Aug. 29

It is time for fun in the sun and water for those who may not typically have the opportunity to participate in traditional water sports.

Wake the World, a non-profit organization that offers recreational water sports events for disabled or disadvantaged children or adults, will once again hold an open day of skiing and water tubing at Moss Lake at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 29, 2022.

In a recent media release for the Shelby Boys & Girls Club, Dr. Jack Weller noted how the price of new cars rises every year. So, this year, said Weller, the Boys & Girls Club of Cleveland County (BGCCC) has decided to continue doing the Benefit Car Raffle without a vehicle.


Shelby Alive! is back for summer 2022

Music will once again be in the air in Uptown Shelby on Thursday evenings as Shelby Alive! returns to the Bobby Bell Pavilion located at 126 West Marion Street.


Shelby Regional Airport to host fly-in; open house June 11

The weather was great for the 2019 Shelby-Cleveland County Regional Airport's 2019 Fly-In and Open House.

Jack E. Poole, Airport Supervisor for the Shelby-Cleveland County Regional Airport Woodson Field, said he is glad they can once again have another fly-in and open house event. Furthermore, he is looking forward to it. And more good news - this is a FREE event! The airport is located at 830 College Ave., (Hwy. 150) Shelby.


Neisler LEC addition nears completion

Over the past couple of years, the walls of an enlarged facility for adult daycare have slowly been taking shape on the Kings Mountain Boulevard. In just a few weeks, the construction will come to an end, and a dream that started six years ago will finally be a reality.


GreenWorks Trash Trout Jr. makes debut at Hickory Creek

City looking for volunteers to help clean the device out periodically, especially after rain events. There's a new trash collector in town and its name is Trash Trout, Jr. The wire and steel contraption was installed Tuesday, May 10 in Hickory Creek in Shelby by Broad Riverkeeper David Caldwell and City of Shelby Stormwater/Engineering Coordinator Tyler Brooks and a couple of helpers.


GWU bulldog gets a new look

There's a new Dawg in town! Gardner-Webb University (GWU) launched a new Runnin' Bulldog logo after a six-month research and interview process. It was revealed to campus, community, alumni and media on Thursday, April 28, 2022.


Relay For Life 2022 starts Sat., May 14 at Dover YMCA

Get ready for the 2022 version of Relay For Life for Cleveland County, which is set to start Saturday, May 14, from 4 to 10 p.m. The location, as it has been for a while now, is the Dover Foundation YMCA, Shelby.


Service to honor local 'fallen heroes'

A special service will take place on Thursday, May 5, 2022. At 11 a.m. that morning the Fallen Heroes Memorial at Raper-Roark Park in Shelby will host the Memorial of Fallen Heroes. The service will recognize local law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.


BGCCC to expand programs across county

The Boys & Girls Club of Cleveland County (BGCCC) is expanding once again, offering programs at Springmore Elementary, Fallston Elementary, the renamed Shelby Elementary and at a new site in the Kings Mountain school zone, beginning in fall 2022.

Basalt fiber plant to be the only North American manufacturer of the useful fibers. On Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at 11 a.m., USDA Rural Development State Director Reginald Speight announced an investment with Mafic USA, located at 119 Metrolina Dr., Shelby, in the Foothills Industrial Park.
