Transportation Administration of Cleve. Co. provides a vital service

Transportation Administration of Cleveland County, Inc. (TACC) is a non-profit agency that provides general public transportation for Cleveland County residents.TACC started back in April 1988 in an uptown Shelby location before moving to a spot at the corner of Double Shoals road and NC18. It settled in its present location at 952 Airport Road, Shelby in July 1999. TACC's white and blue vans are a familiar sight in and around the county.


Glass chapel helping to spread the Gospel

Nestled on a sprawling green lawn off the Ellenboro Henrietta Road is a glass chapel built for women to have Bible studies, places of worship, peace, communion and small weddings for the public.


Extension Master GardenerSM Association of Cleveland County invites community to participate in Great Southewast Pollinator Census August 23-24

The Extension Master Gardener SM Association of Cleveland County invites the community to participate in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census on August 23-24.
Participating is easy, and anyone can do it. Pick a spot in your garden, yard, local park or other outdoor location. Choose a pollinator plant to observe, any blooming plant that has insect activity. Spend 15 minutes observing the plant and count and categorize the insects that land on it. The community can also join members of the local Master Gardener volunteers at the Foothills Farmers' Market in Shelby on Saturday, August 24 to participate.
Links to a counting sheet and a pamphlet with the categories can be accessed on the Great Southeast Pollinator Census website at gsepc.org. This site is also where participants will upload their counts.


NC BeachBlast Festival August 17

The City of Kings Mountain is bringing the Beach back to downtown for the 25th time, as the NC BeachBlast Festival comes to Patriots Park.

Hope Johnson learned from her own personal experiences that everyone has family struggles and secrets one might not want to have to talk about.
She was a young girl when a member of her family took his own life and she would learn later about another member's years of clinical depression.


It is official - Uptown Shelby Social District now in full swing!

Carly C. Bostic, Executive Director of the Uptown Shelby Association, noted recently that Uptown Shelby's new Social District started as of July 1.
Bostic said this is a "first" for Uptown Shelby, adding, "(and) a big thanks is owed to our elected officials and the employees of the City of Shelby for recognizing the impact that a social district has on the vitality of local businesses."


Catawba Two Kings Casino groundbreaking June 7th

The Catawba Two Kings Casino held its official groundbreaking, or MANUU HAR HE WE, which in the Catawba language means "We intend to dig the earth," at 538 Kings Mountain Blvd. in Kings Mountain on Friday, June 7.
Kathy George, President of the Catawba Nation Gaming Authority, welcomed guests and local dignitaries, saying, "What a great day to have you all join us, and what great weather we have. So, thank you to all who dialed that in today.


Kings Mountain event to honor and assist veterans

The walking track behind the Kings Mountain Family YMCA at 211 Cleveland Ave. will be the site of a special event 8am to 8pm June 22 honoring veterans and featuring a wide variety of booths and representatives offering assistance for them.

Master Gardener program welcomes new members

The NC State Extension Master Gardener program has trained people to serve as volunteer educators of science-based horticultural knowledge since 1979. In 2012, the Cleveland County Cooperative Extension office began offering Master Gardener classes and formed the Extension Master GardenerSM Association of Cleveland County.

The Banker's House Embarks on Historic Roof Renovation

The Banker's House is getting a new roof! This is the first complete renovation of the roof since the house was first constructed in 1874-75.

"It's amazing that the original roof has lasted this long," says Banker's House Executive Director Carolyn Jackson. "This just shows the quality and durability that was crafted into every aspect of this house."

Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland County (BGCCC) will host a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater on Saturday, March 23, at the Don Gibson Theatre, S Washington Street, Shelby. The event will start with a social at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. provided by 133 West, Kings Mountain. The excitement of solving the mystery will begin at 7 p.m.


Shelby's Carolina Harmony Trail is like music to nature lovers

The heart of Shelby is a busy place but there's an oasis beginning at the corner of W. Marion and N. Morgan Streets near the Foothills Farmers' Market that offers folks a chance to commune with nature and get some exercise in a quiet, beautiful, and safe environment.

Known as the Carolina Harmony Trail, the feature is a .7 mile long, 13-foot wide, paved, level, pathway bordered by split rail fence and lush vegetation.
